Misconduct Reporting Forms
When to Report an Injury
As outlined in our Code of Conduct, all injuries sustained during training must be reported, regardless of severity. This helps us maintain safety standards and improve our training practices. This form is also used to log any activity that breeches the code of conduct we have.
What Counts as an Injury?
- • Any injury requiring medical attention (hospital visit, doctor's appointment)
- • Injuries that prevent you from participating in future sessions
- • Significant bruising, cuts, or impact injuries
- • Any head impacts (even if you feel fine)
- • Joint or muscle strains that affect movement

Ironfolk ID Number (IFN) Lookup
Your Ironfolk ID Number (IFN) is your unique member identifier in the format IFN-XXXX. You'll need this number for event registration, accessing member-only resources, and club communications.

Gear Specifications & Requirements
Essential Protective Equipment
All participants must wear appropriate protective equipment during sparring and contact drills. Beginners can use club equipment, but regular members are encouraged to invest in their own gear over time.
Fencing Mask
Minimum Standard: 350N or 1600N rated HEMA mask
Recommended: Back-of-head protection, good visibility, proper sizing
Note: Three-weapon fencing masks are NOT suitable for HEMA
Fencing Gloves
Minimum Standard: HEMA-specific gloves with rigid finger protection
Recommended: Good mobility, wrist protection, comfortable fit
Popular Brands: SPES, Sparring Glove, Koning, Red Dragon
Throat Protection (Gorget)
Requirement: Rigid throat and collar bone protection
Recommended: Full coverage, comfortable fit under mask
Note: Essential for all sparring, no exceptions
Fencing Jacket
Minimum Standard: 350N rated HEMA jacket
Recommended: Elbow protection, mobility, proper fit
Alternative: Gambeson with forearm protection can be used
Additional Protection (Strongly Recommended)
Forearm Guards
Rigid or semi-rigid protection for forearms. Essential for longsword, highly recommended for all weapons.
Knee Protection
Knee pads or guards recommended.
Chest Protection
Rigid plastron or chest guard strongly recommended. Helps distribute impact and provides additional safety.
Groin Protection
Highly recommended for all fencers. Standard athletic cups/guards work well for HEMA.
Training Weapons
The club provides training weapons for all beginners. When you're ready to purchase your own, here are our specifications:
Longsword (Feder)
- Length: Generally 140-150cm total length
- Weight: 1.4-1.8kg
- Features: Flexible blade with schilt (crossguard widening), rolled tip
- Popular Makers: Regenyei, Sigi
Rapier
- Length: Generally 120-135cm total length
- Weight: 1.1-1.4kg
- Features: Flexible blade, complex hilt, rolled or rubber tip
- Note: Consult with instructors before purchasing
Other Weapons
We also train with saber, dagger, spear, and sidesword. If you're interested in these weapons, speak with an instructor about appropriate training equipment specifications.

While there are limited NZ-specific HEMA suppliers, some fencing equipment retailers may carry suitable gear. The club can also assist with group orders to reduce international shipping costs.

- Safety First: Always prioritize the safety of yourself and your training partners
- Respect: Treat all members with dignity and respect, regardless of skill level, identity, or background
- Inclusivity: Foster an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued
- Accountability: Take responsibility for your actions and report any concerns
Expected Behaviors
- • Wear all required protective equipment during contact drills and sparring
- • Control your strikes and respect tap-outs immediately
- • Communicate clearly with training partners about intensity preferences
- • Report all injuries, regardless of severity
- • Use inclusive language and respect pronouns
- • Ask for consent before physical contact or partnered drills
- • Support and encourage fellow students
- • Follow instructor guidance and club rules
Unacceptable Behaviors
- • Deliberate excessive force or unsafe training practices
- • Harassment, discrimination, or hate speech of any kind
- • Unwelcome physical contact or sexual harassment
- • Disrespecting gender identity, sexual orientation, or pronouns
- • Bullying, intimidation, or aggressive behavior
- • Training while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- • Ignoring safety protocols or instructor guidance
- • Creating an unwelcoming or hostile environment
Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness behavior that violates our Code of Conduct, please report it immediately to:

- • Through our anonymous reporting form (if available)
All reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially. We are committed to addressing concerns promptly and appropriately.
